getting back to the gym

Yep, so I've finally started going to gthe gym again.  I fell off theat bandwagon  once work got crazy and I didnt find the time...but its definetely past time to get back into shape.  So one of the interns and I signed up at Fitness World-at first they give you this fitness test where they measure you, weigh you, get your body fat percent (yikes haha), hydration, etc. And then they re-do it all every month or something to see how that's going.  And they show you the equipment and then change up your program every month so you don't plateau or get bored and whatnot.  Anyways, sounds good, glad to be back to it.

Went with my Dad to visit my Grandma last week.  I hadn't been for a while, and I could definetely tell that her memory and everything is getting much worse.  With alzheimers, you always wonder when the day will come that the person no longer recognizes you.  I started to get a glimpse of what that feels like, as when I first came she confused me for the girl who has been giving her her medicine, and even started to introduce me to my Dad.  Once we said who I was she realized, but it was a really weird feeling.  Many other things, she forgets right away and repeats a lot and gets confused.  Once they find a place, she will have to go into a home soon.  My aunt spends a lot of time going over and checking and bringing food, and that must get tiring.

Here's a question for ya...say you're at your boyfriend/girlfriend/fuck buddys house doing the deed, at their sibling comes and tells you to tone it down because the entire house can hear...don't ya think you would?  Not the case with my brother and his skanky booty call.  Now this scenerio has happened on other occassions but I didn't say anything, hoping it would end soon.  My dad has also said to them that the entire house can hear it all.  And by hear it all I don't just mean the bed knocking, I mean the moaning and all that jazz.  So when I was home visitng, this began and I so I went and told them to shut up.  Much to my dismay, the sounds continue.  By this point I'm fucking pissed off and disgusted and want to sleep (which is not at all possible), so I go again and tell them to shut the hell up etc...and...it doesn't stop!  What the fuck is wrong with them!  Have you NO disency??  I ended up having to go turn up the tv in an attempt to save my sanity.  And then the next morning we were blessed with another romp session.  I think I could go on a whole rant about how skanky she is, but I'm sure you all realize this and get my point.  And to you people who bring anyone home to your parents house-SHUT THE FUCK UP.

once again

Well, it has been ages since I've written on here.   Atleast one person enjoyed my writings and requested I start again, and thus I will Wink
I think most people have converted to facebook now.
Well, to give a quick summary, although those reading this will know already...I got a position at Critter Care and have been working there.  I raised two grey squirrels, named Pipes (because of well, her massive pipes and body) and Clark (who like to feed from the syringe in a superman like pose) who have been released back in to the wild, giving them a second chance!  I then took on 3 raccoons, who I named Cooper, Kia, and Bentley.  I loved raising them, they were rambuncious little critters and were always greatling entertaining.  They definetely know how to test your patience as well though!  This past Monday I released them, along with their cagemates I adopted from their "mom" who went back to her home after interning here.  It was great being able to see them in the wild and loving exploring, but I do miss them of course and just can hope they are doing ok!  I have put up a few pics on facebook and will add more when i get back to Langley.

We're up to 6 bear cubs now, all of the ones from last year were released late spring early summer.  We had 6 fawns, who have been gone for a while now.  Shitloads of skunks, squirrels, opossums, and 12 coyotes.  And we still have the one beaver.  I've definetely seen a lot of things there 0good and bad.  IT's amazing to see w hat they live with and how much suffering they can endure.  Well it's time to go for a walk with Miss Jess and dogs, I'll try to keep on top of this!

job opportunities?

I guess I've sort of fallen off the writing in myspace bandwagon hah.
Still working at Critter Care.  Can't remember if I mentioned how I applied for a fellowship position at another rehab. centre... anyways I did that...it's for like a semi-supervisor.  They deal mostly with seal babies but also have mammals and birds.  And when I mentioned that to the owner of CC she said she was going to try to get that grant as well so that she could afford to hire me for the summer atleast, so that's excellent...we'll see what happens!
If neither of those pan out...one of the supervisors who is leaving is thinking about going to this place in North Dakota that has animals from circuses/dumbass people who don't realize you can't keep wild animals as pets, native wild animals, and dogs from local shelters that are to be put down-so he can adopt them out.  So really they have the best of all worlds-since I can't decide between domestic or wild animals, and you'd have some rehab mixed with some playing with some of the animals. Perfecto.  She knows a lady who knows the guy, so she wrote to him to get more info. about it.  It would be cool to work there for a while though.
So hopefully one of the three will pan out!

This morning Carroll, Donny, and I went to IHOP for breakfast and of course it was very excellent.  Breakfast food is the best.  I had strawberry crepes...mmm....
Went and saw the movie Because I Said So, and it was very excellent!  I'd definetely recommend it for anyone who likes chick flick type movies.

Donny's mom's dog Gizmo is staying here for about a week and a half.  He's a cute little dog!  Carroll and I took them for a walkl and frisbee t his afternoon and they thoroughly enjoyed it.

I think I wrote about the fawn we got before?  We released him a while ago.  Gotten 5 opossums, and 2 have been released so far.  I think we had the coyote last time as well?  She's getting better and is now in an outside enclosure.  Oh and a squirrel that was missing like 2/3 of its tail, but he got better and is now half released (his cage door is open so he can leave when he likes but we put food it in each day so he can have a food supply while he adjusts).  So we seen in around the property occassionally.

Ooh Carroll and I got our hair cut and dyed earlier this week, which was much needed!  I got a decent amount of length cut off and streaked with lighter blonde and darker brown streaks.

Hmmmm that's all that's coming to mind for now
If it wants to work I'll add some new pics from work

January 07

time flies

Well it has been forever since I've written in here! Time flies and I've been super busy. I guess I'll do a quick recap of the things I remember...
-Christmas was good, went back to Hope for a couple days. Went to the annual Boxing Day event at the Chalice and got a little too drunk and felt like I wanted to die the next day. Good times!
-My great Aunt from California came up so that was good to see her, can't remember when I last saw her?
-Got 2 little bear cubs in at work, super adorable! Not sure why they're so young as cubs aren't supposed to be born until Dec-Jan??
So I can now say I've learned how to rangle a bear cub and been bitten by a bear! (while wearing big leather gloves obviously so no injury, but a little startling the first few times...)
-I'll try to post some pics soon, though most are dark since I didn't want to use the flash and scare them
-Work has been a little crazy lately as we've gone from 5 interns when I started to 2...with the same workload. But 2 new girls are coming in January so that will be excellent (provided theyre good workers...hah...)
-Time to start looking for a permanent job now...
Went to a shelter to pick up some dog food (first time driving a truck!) and realized how much I missed the barking sounds (though when you're there all day it turns not so pleasant..) so now I'm pondering some sort of place like that?? We'll see...
Something with animals for sure though.
-Went to a firefighters fundraiser and got their calander signed with "sexy" (yet funny) autographs..and got them to dedicate it to Critter Care (though I don't think we'll be able to post it at work 'cause it'd be too scandalous...)
-New Years was good, we had some people over here for it

Hmm I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting but I'm drawing a blank right now.
Carroll and I went shopping today (yay for days off) and I got a pair of pants, a zip up sweater and a t-shirt and a pair of earrings. And I still have Christmas money left over!

Back to work tomorrow, and the new gal will be working! yay!
Jory helped with the raccoon cages yesterday (which are a huge task to clean) and even that was so much better than doing them all myself.

Anyhow I should head off too bed because sleep is key!

November 29

holy cold temperatures batman

2 pairs of knee high thick wool socks
2 pairs of pants
1 pair of overall rainpants
3 shirts
1 hoodie
1 winter jacket
1 pair each of thin knit gloves, latex gloves, winter gloves
1 toque

That's what's required for me to keep warm while working outside all day.  Oh and I also must be moving around otherwise I get cold.  And my face is always half numb from the wind haha.  Good ol freezing cold temperatures and snowstorms!!
So we ended up getting about a foot and 3/4 at work of snow.  Holy mayhem!  The enclosures are made of that chain-link fence material and some of the roofs have wooden parts as well.  Apparantly this does not stand up to huge dumps of snow.
Sunday morning I made the trek into work alive (bonus) and only got stuck in the entrance to Critter Care on this mini slope hah.  So a little shovel digging later I was in the parking area.
After feeding and doing what we could for cleaning it was time to begin clearing the roofs of the enclosures.  Easy enough to shovel it off the wooden sections, but the chain link (majority) areas made things a little more tricky.  Long story short we discovered we could push it through to the inside of the cages and so it began.  In the late afternoon we discovered that one of the crossbeams in teh bear cage had broken and was starting to collapse so we hauled ass and tried to clear it off without falling through.  Ended up having to put some more support beams up so it wouldn't collapse.  Escaping bears is no good.
Then as me and another girl went to check that all the racoons had been locked in the inside portions of their cages we discovered one still on the outside.  So I went in there to get it out and she called it in from the inside.  After I left the cage and walked away (about 30sec later tops) I heard this big crash and was like what the..... walked back to find taht the roof had collapsed in!  Holy close  batman.  Damn lucky timing!
This roof clearing went on for 3 days, and still is today but it's my day off so I'm relaxing at home
But man the animals love the snow!!
The bears were going nuts running around and playing in it.
The slide in the river otters pen is usually not too slippery so it takes a while of jumping in the pool and climbing on it so that they can slide down easily...but the snow made it perfect after a couple clearing runs and they were going nuts with that.
And the 'coons loved digging around in it too.  Good times!
Some of the snow got piled so high we could jump off the roofs into them.  Also good times.

So I got my first real bite the other night.  We got this bushy-tailed woodland rat or something to taht effect in from this lady who had gotten it from an SPCA (up north and had it flown down for $150) thinking it was something else...and when she discovered that really its name had the word "rat" in it she got freaked out and said she couldn't have it any more.  It doesnt look like a rat.  More like a cross between a chinchilla and a squirrel or something, pretty cute!  Sooo anyways another gal had called me in because it was climbing on its door and was being all cute...so me being dumb and thinking it has been someones pet for a while stuck my finger up to the cage in an attempt to give its belly a little pet...and it gave me a nice bite on the finger!  And holy crap did it ever bleed haha.  Totally gushing down my hand even with water running over it.  Good times.  Nothing bad though, just needed some pressure for a bit.  Hurt quite a bit to touch it for the first day or so though, I guess because it was on such a sensitive area.  It was funny at the time though cuz my line before sticking my finger up to it was "Awwww you're so cute, can I pet you?" and they were like idiot haha.

Anyways
Ooooh my opossum babies got released last week under one of the volunteers shed so that they'll have access to a warm place with food.  I hope they do ok and stick around especially during this bigass snowfall.  Hopefully I see the lady tomorrow and I'll ask if they stuck around.
We've also gotten another beaver.  It was found near the border and had a hole in its bottom jaw so the vet stitched that up and we'll see how it does now...
The baby opossums decided to try to bite off the end of their moms tail before they left too and the  bone was sticking out the end so that was just amputated yesterday at the vet too.  Silly kids!

That's all the updates I can think of for now
Ooh one more.  My uncle is back at home and recovering now so hopefully all goes well.
